Brief History:
On December 6th 2006 Sam was diagnosed with a very rare cancer,
Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma Stage 4. The cancer was large and spread
from the Left Kidney area throughout and throughout her abdomen with
tentacles that compromised vital organs and their vascular supply. The
tumor in her abdomen quickly metastasized to her lungs.
As soon as she was diagnosed she was life-flighted to Children's
Hospital in Denver. She underwent the traditional Chemotherapy for 2
weeks. She then returned to her home in Bayfield, Colorado, and
continued her treatment in Durango. Sam's body rejected the treatment.
She became very ill and was re-hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center in
Durango.
On Christmas morning 2006 Sam told me that she could beat the cancer,
but the Chemo was going to kill her very soon. From that moment
forward myself, Chris (my wife), and Samantha (16 years old) have been
on an amazing journey to find the cure for Sam.
As of today(3-29-07), Sam's tumor is is marble sized with no tumors
on her lungs. We are aggressively continuing to treat Sam and will
only accept complete 100% remission, but alternative treatments are
very expensive and insurance does not cover anything.
Update: On april 11th Sam had a 4th PET scan. Unfortunately, the
scan showed new tumor formation in her abdomen and it has metastasized
bilaterally into her lungs again.
After much research, we are leaving for Germany on 4-17-07 to seek the
help of a oncologist who has had success with Sarcomas.
